Pictured below we are using cold mix asphalt to construct a Pickle Ball court. This system is preferred over hot mix because the entire pad is installed without any seams; therefore the court will never have any seam cracks (the most frequent form of cracking). A laser grader controls the surface grade, so the court will have a margin of error of less than one tenth of an inch; this results in a very smooth consistent surface free of birdbaths or any other elevation irregularities.

This project is located at the Sun City Center Community Association, South Campus Rec. Center, in Sun City Center Florida.

Delivery of cold mix asphalt directly on pad.

Asphalt is then laser graded using a machine control laser grading system. With this method the entire pad is placed at one time on the same grade elevation. Since the box blade is controlled automatically the slope is perfect within one tenth of an inch true.

Once compacted the pad is nearly perfect. No patches along seams or filling of burd baths is needed. We can go straight to apply the acrylics.

The result is a smooth consistent surface. And since cold mix asphalt stays soft in the bottom 40% the pad is very resilient to the forming of cracks. These courts were installed in July of 2007 and have no cracks or settling areas.
